November 28, 2008, Newsletter Issue #192: Exfoliating - benefits and methods
1
Tip of the Week
What should we think of skin which sloughs off after a bath? Small, loose, ´rolling´ bits are dry skin, usually, ready to be "shed". Unusually large pieces or raw areas should be shown to a doctor.
An exfoliating soap used once a week will help take this skin off in the bath. Exfoliating soaps contain some sort of abrasive product such as oatmeal. Oatmeal soap has many skin benefits and has been known to also give relief to insect bites or plant irritations such as poison ivy or poison oak.
Vigorous rubbing with the bath towel will help remove extra dry skin. I like to keep a pumice tool or pumice stone near the shower to help with skin ready to be shed, especially around heels and elbows.
One benefit of keeping ahead of the build up of skin ready to be shed will be found around your feet. The extra build up can become a callous which can lead to painful cracks in the flesh, especially during dry weather. Usually this extra skin build up is not unhealthy, but I feel so good after a good rubbing to get rid of it!
