November 17, 2006, Newsletter Issue #87: Avoid Senior Moments

Tip of the Week

Here are some simple recommendations that encourage well being and may help to keep forgetfulness at bay.

* Get more sleep - try adding on an extra hour to your sleep schedule.

* Get Moving - exercise helps promote the production of brain cells.

* Never stop learning - Learning helps ensure the survival of new brain cells.

* Strengthen both sides of your brain - Stimulate both sides of your brain on a regular basis. (crossword puzzles are great for the left side, while activities that require spatial skills are good for the right side, like knitting or chess.)

* Accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative - chronic stress inhibits the growth of new brain cells

* Increase your daily intake of antioxidants - Antioxidants protect cells by disarming free radicals in the brain.
