July 21, 2006, Newsletter Issue #72: Heartburn and Onions

Tip of the Week

Avoid most raw onions. When eating a spicy meal, it is often the onions that are the cause of your heartburn. Certain onions have been found to not cause this problem, such as; Texas sweet onions, Maui, and the Walla Walla variety.

Because onions can be good for us and their flavor appeals to us, use onion juice or powdered onion in cooking if you have a sensitivity to onions. The fiber in the onions seems to be the culprit for stomach rejection!
