April 6, 2007, Newsletter Issue #107: Cystitus Relief - (Bladder infection)

Tip of the Week

An infection of the bladder caused by bacteria entering the bladder through the urethra, cystitus is more common in women than men because the female urethra is shorter than the male and is closer to the anus.

Bathing frequently can help prevent this painful problem. Add a few drops of essential oil to the bath such as chamomile or parsley. Although it may be inconvenient, bathing is particularly useful after intercourse. Never have the water too hot in the bath as heat can irritate the bladder.

Massage oils of 3/4 to 1 ounce of soy oil and 5 drops of an essential oil mixed and massaged into the tops of hands and feet, the stomach, lower back and sacral region can give relief and help prevent cystitis.

Diuretic herbal teas are also very useful. Corn silk tea is especially good.
