June 15, 2007, Newsletter Issue #117: Amenorrhea

Tip of the Week

Amenorrhea is the absence of normal menstruation in women after puberty and before the menopause. Young girls will often experience irregular periods, but after the body has balanced, irregularity can be a symptom something is amiss. Pregnancy and breast-feeding are obvious times when bleeding doesn´t occur.

Stopping the use of contraceptive pills, anexoria nervosa, shock or severe stress, long distance air travel can all affect the regularity of the menstrual cycle.

Helpful herbs, especially in a tisane are parsley or chamomile. Dong Quai has been used with some success.
