July 17, 2009, Newsletter Issue #224: Preventing BUNION

Tip of the Week

A slight deformity of the foot can result in a bunion, which is the irritation and inflammation of the joint at the base of the big toe. When the disorder develops, the big toe overrides with the next toe(s) and the joint protrudes. A bunion is often subjected to constant rubbing, which makes walking painful and difficult.

To prevent this, always wear correctly fitting shoes.

Avoid high-heeled and pointed shoes.
