What are diet or nutrition related disorders?

Diet related disorders

Nutritional disorders are caused by either a lack of certain nutrients in a diet or by the body not correctly using consumed nutrients. They can also be caused by to much of a certain substance in the diet, such as carbohydrates. Many other health conditions can result from an excess of a certain food.

Conditions such as appendicitis, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome are aggravated by a diet rich in refined carbohydrates or low in fiber. Note that foods rich in fiber are essential ingredients in any balanced diet.

A diet rich in saturated fats causes increased levels of cholesterol and fat in your blood, leaving you at risk for artherosclerosis.

Heavy drinkers often replace healthy foods with alcohol, and thus develop nutritional disorders.

Other people, especially adolescent girls, may experience nutritional disorders caused by fad or crash diets.
