Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before handling food and when switching from raw foods to cooked.
Wash raw fruits and vegetables under running water before eating them.
You can add just a drop of dishwashing detergent or some salt to the water for washing fresh produce.
I also keep a spray bottle with a chlorine bleach and dishwashing detergent solution handy for cleaning counters, tabletops and a swipe at those cutting boards.
